
Bob Kriebel, who graduated from Westside in 1950, was an award-winning journalist, historian, and author of thirteen books. Bob received a basketball scholarship to Tulane University where he received a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1954. Bob served two years in counterintelligence with the U.S. Army and in 1956, he returned to Tippecanoe County to work for the Lafayette Leader, and in 1957 began his 36-year career with the Journal & Courier where he served as a reporter and editor. After retiring in 1993, he continued to write a weekly column about local history called “old Lafayette,” which appeared in the paper until 2011. IN 1975, he was named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team, and in 2006 he was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. Kriebel participated in basketball, baseball, football and track, served as Senior Class President, and was in the National Honor Society. While at WLHS, he scored 1,151 points in basketball, setting a school record that held for 66 years.
