A Team Effort

Through a grant from Riley Children’s Foundation, the West Lafayette Schools Education Foundation was able to recently donate $3,994.00 to Gearing Up for Success to reach out to students during the summer months. The funds will be used by Gearing Up for Success coordinator, Sara Delaney, to purchase school supplies, educational workbooks, and fiction/nonfiction books to send home to students. The program will team up with the Summer Backpack Program so that these materials can be packed with the backpacks of food that are delivered to students throughout the summer. Thank you to Riley and to the many volunteers who have helped to coordinate this effort to bring nutrition and education to our students this summer.

In the winter of 2014, WLSEF also donated several boxes of books to Cumberland Elementary to use as a PreK – Third Grade Lending Library for the program Gearing Up for Success. These books were previously purchased by the Foundation using grant funds for a Mobile Library program. Mary Beth Whitman, retired media center specialist and librarian at Happy Hollow Elementary, researched and selected these books for the program.
